Date set for inauguration of Interoceanic Train of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec

Mexico City, Mexico — President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that on December 22, the Interoceanic Train of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec will be inaugurated.

The new line will run from Salina Cruz, Oaxaca to Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz.

In a morning conference, he announced that the ticket price will be below what bus routes currently charge.

He recalled that the administration of both ports will be headed by the Secretary of the Navy and two companies will participate in the handling of merchandise. The concession will be issued shortly after which time cargo service will begin.

He explained that five of the 10 development centers have already been put out to tender and before the end of the year, they will be delivered. The federation will launch the call for tenders for the rest of the industrial parks.

López Obrador says on November 20 he will publish the decree that will establish the return passenger train service to Mexico, which will share 20,000 kilometers of railway tracks with cargo transportation in order to improve connectivity throughout the country.
