Cozumel pirate ship sinks from heavy rains, strong winds

Cozumel, Q.R. — Heavy rains are said responsible for the sinking of a tourist pirate ship off a coast along Cozumel.

The galeón ship slowly took on water over the weekend, ending up submerged. The vessel, which was anchored, sunk after the affects of tropical depression Cristóbal passed through Yucatan. Bands of bad weather from the large system were felt as far west as Cozumel.

Island boatmen and fishermen tried to save the ship, however, they were not successful. A combination of strong waves and heavy rains are said to have caused the ship to sink.
