Construction worker killed in Riviera Maya hotel roof collapse

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — One worker was killed Tuesday after a roof collapse at a Riviera Maya hotel. The accident scene was attended to by State Civil Protection who confirmed the death.

In a brief statement, the Coordinación Estatal de Protección Civil Quintana Roo said “In coordination with corporations of the federal, state and municipal governments, an incident is attended to at the Paladium Hotel in Playa del Carmen.

Elements of the State Civil Protection Coordination, firefighters, National Guard, State Police, Municipal Police, Municipal Civil Protection and paramedics arrived at the scene around 9:15 a.m.

There, they located a construction worker who was killed after a slab of supported concrete collapsed and fell on him. The supported concrete was part of a new roof. It is believed the supports used to hold it in place gave way, crushing the construction worker. The collapse left a second worker with minor injuries.
