Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The city of Playa del Carmen is preparing to extend its central tourist area. Carlos Jiménez, the Director of Tourism Marketing and Promotion of Solidaridad City Council, says the extension would reach Luis Donald Colosio Boulevard.
The project, would include Fifth Avenue improvements with changed facades. However, the project needs the support of local businesses.
“It is necessary to have the support of different agencies,” he said adding that such a project would also have to ensure security services such as lighting are provided.
“If you are going to create a larger tourist area, you have to guarantee cleanliness, security, better lighting. Many things have to be guaranteed to make this concept come true,” he explained.
He also said that he is currently working with the municipal agencies in charge of those needed services to prepare a plan that would allow the infrastructure required in the expanded sections.
It will be in coming days that he will meet with the Municipal Tourism Commission and other local authorities to determine the new limits.
