Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An American man was arrested in Playa del Carmen Wednesday on drug and weapon charges. In a statement, the Secretariat of Public Security of Solidaridad reported the arrest of 38-year-old John “N” from Chicago.
John N was transferred to a Playa del Carmen jail cell after being found in possession of a backpack of various narcotics and a loaded handgun. John N was eventually detained after a foot chase from 2nd Street and 10th Avenue in the city center.
On Wednesday afternoon, a patrolling officer saw John N run from the area. As he ran, the officer saw a gun tucked into the waist of his pants and began a pursuit which lead into a two-story building.
John N was located and inspected, at which time he was found in possession of 33 bags of marijuana and 100 bags of cocaine. He was also found carrying a loaded firearm and cash.
Inside the building, police found a second person who has since been identified as 46-year-old Daniel N from Mexico City. The SSP of Solidaridad reported that “after a security inspection, found among his belongings were 516 bags of cocaine, a suitcase with a wrapped package with possible marijuana and seven bags with a substance to be determined.”
