CFE connects Holbox and Isla Mujeres with new submarine cables

Holbox, Q.R. — The CFE is moving forward with the connection of new electrical submarine cables for the islands of Holbox and Isla Mujeres. In a briefing, the agency reported carrying out the connection of Holbox Island to the National Electric System through a 10.5 kilometer long submarine cable.

The Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) also replaced 6.9 kilometers of submarine cable that connects Isla Mujeres with the city of Cancun.

In a statement, they said “these projects are being carried out with an investment of 942 million pesos, they use the highest technology available in the global market, they will generate 900 direct jobs and 2,800 indirect jobs, they will benefit 11,990 users and they will guarantee the supply of electricity to the users of Isla Holbox and Isla Women, for the next 30 years.”

Governor Mara Lezama announced the completed project on social media saying “Thanks to efforts and coordinated work with GobiernoMX, CFEmx connects Holbox to the national electrical system and to improve the service in IslaMujeres the submarine wiring is replaced, thereby guaranteeing the supply of energy by the next 30 years.”
