Cancun, Q.R. — A front seat taxi passenger was killed Sunday morning after the driver slammed into a metal pole. The single vehicle accident happened near the entrance to Bonfil in Cancun’s suburb around 8:00 a.m.
First responders to the scene found three injured, two of whom were already outside the taxi. In the front seat passenger was a woman. She was pronounced by medical personnel. Firemen were called in to remove her body from the car due to the severity of the crushed front end of the cab.
Preliminary traffic reports say the driver of the cab was speeding when he lost control and slammed into the base of a pole in the central median of the roadway. The front passenger side of his car took a majority of the hit.
Two ambulances responding to the accident confirmed the death of the front seat passenger. They proceeded to treat the other three from inside the taxi.
