Cancun, Q.R. — Two men were arrested late Tuesday from a Cancun residential area after exchanging gunfire with police. During the exchange, a third gunman was killed.
Bullets began flying between criminals and Cancun police Tuesday evening after patrolling officers spotted a known criminal vehicle. The Nissan Kicks was located in the Kuzamil residential subdivision of Cancun and positively identified by officers as a vehicle related to city crime scenes.
When officers began to inspect the car, the three men inside opened fire against police. Police and criminals exchanged bullets before two of the criminals were captured. A third criminal was shot and killed by Cancun police.
In an official statement, the State Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía General del Estado de Quintana Roo -FGE) reported on the attack that left one gunman dead.
“After an attack against agents of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Homicide, one person died and two were arrested for their probable participation in homicide crimes that occurred on the 13 of November of this year in this municipality.
“The capture took place when elements of this autonomous organization were carrying out investigations in the Kuzamil subdivision where they detected a gray Kicks brand vehicle, which is related to various homicides including the one that occurred on November 25 of this year during an assault on the “Materials Maranata” establishment in Cancun which left two people dead and one injured.
“It should be noted that when attempting to inspect the unit, as well as its occupants, they began shooting with firearms at the agents who repelled the attack, finally achieving the arrest of two subjects.
