Cancun driver chased for speeding believed connected to home robberies

Cancun, Q.R. — Police in Cancun have taken a man into custody who is believed responsible for home robberies. On Thursday, authorities arrested Jacob “N” after he was seen speeding through a group of pedestrians at a Cancun Hotel Zone crosswalk.

Police were on the other side of the crosswalk when they saw him speed thorough the group. They began their pursuit of the driver, catching up with him near the entrance to the San Miguelito archaeological zone on Kukulkan Boulevard.

When they approached the driver, they were verbally assaulted. One officer was “hit strongly” in the chest by the driver’s right hand, who also, according to the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana of Quintana Roo report, “tried to hit one of the police officers and continued with the verbal insults.”

He was arrested for “resisting and disobeying a legitimate mandate from the authority, for which the police carried out the corresponding arrest for the crime of disobedience and resistance by individuals,” the SSC reported.

However, after being handed over to the State Attorney General’s Office, Jacob “N” is believed to be connected to home burglaries around the city.
