Two dead in fatal car-bus crash outside Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — According to preliminary information, two people were killed late Saturday morning after a car rammed the back of a passenger bus. The accident happened in a highway retorno between Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen.

Two people from inside the red Mazda were killed and one other injured when the car slammed into the back of the bus. The passenger side of the car became lodged under the bus engine when hit the bus using the retorno.

The car was traveling down the highway when it came upon the bus. In an attempt to go around, the passenger side clipped the bus. The impact sheared off the top and side of the car killing two inside.

Early details of the accident report a speeding driver that was unable to stop in time when they happened upon the bus as it was passing through the highway retorno. Transit officers found the driver and front seat passenger dead. A second passenger, in the back seat behind the driver, was injured.
