Two Americans charged with weapons offences to remain in Cancun prison

Cancun, Q.R. — Two Americans jailed for entering the country with illegal items have been formally changed. On Friday, the Public Ministry of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) in Quintana Roo reported on their arrests.

In two separate incidences, both American men have been formally charged after one man was found entering the country with cartridges and the other, with a gun, magazine and cartridges. Both were arrested at the Cancun International Airport in recent weeks.

According to the FGR, Paul “N” from Massachusetts was arrested at the Cancun International Airport after landing on a flight from Philadelphia. In his luggage, airport agents found 55 9mm caliber cartridges for which he has been formally charged.

In Terminal 4 of Cancun International, Lane “N” was detained after an xray inspection of his lurrage revealed a pistol and stocked magazine and additional ammuniation for that same weapon.

Both men have had their day in Cancun court and have been officially charged. The FGR reported that both Paul “N” and Lane “N” have been given informal preventive detention as a precautionary measure and will remain in the CERESO (prison) in the City of Cancun.
