Puerto Morelos wildfire slowing traffic along federal highway

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A wildfire along a section of the Federal 307 in Puerto Morelos is causing heavy traffic. The Puerto Morelos fire department has reported on the fire, which they say, is located at Kilometer 318 before the Pescadores Brewery.

According to the fire department, local authorities including firemen and National Guard are working on extinguishing the fire, which is crawling along the highway under electrical lines. The fire has generated a lot of thick smoke, which is also affecting traffic.

The fire began around noon and has grown due to wind gusts. The fire is located along the federal highway approximately 30 kilometers north of Playa del Carmen.

There have not been any reports of injuries, however, officials are warning about heavy traffic in the area due to smoke and working emergency service crews.

In a briefing, Bomberos Puerto Morelos has reported “Caution, fire on Highway 307, lanes from Puerto Morelos to Playa del Carmen, at km 318, before the Pescadores Brewery. National Guard and Firefighters working, heavy traffic in the area.”
