Port of Manzanillo customs finds over 8,600 kilos of methamphetamine in tequila bottles

Port of Manzanillo, Colima — Customs officers at the Port of Manzanillo have seized more than 8,600 kilos of methamphetamine found in bottles of tequila. A report released by the Secretary of the Navy said that last week, naval personnel, in coordination with Manzanillo Customs, made the seizure of approximately 8,640 kilograms.

The seizure was the result of an inspection of a container with 960 boxes, which contained 11,520 bottles of tequila. The methamphetamine was found inside the 750 ml bottles which were intended for export.

The container of boxes was detected by a narcotics dog and examined by a chemical identification system. Later, samples were taken to the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the Secretary of the Navy for analysis, which confirmed the shipment as positive for methamphetamine.

The drug was seized and integrated into an investigation. In their statement, the Navy said that already this year, they have seized and destroyed approximately 114.3 tons of methamphetamine.
