Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Vehicular traffic along a section of the federal highway was reduced to one lane after a pavement crack was reported. The crack is believed to have emerged due to a cavity in the subsoil.
Lanes along a section of the Puerto Morelos-Playa del Carmen highway have been reduced since the passing of heavy traffic could lead to another sinkhole, similar to others that have emerged over the years.
The operational director of Playa del Carmen Civil Protection, Leticia Hernández, reported that a crack has been located in the asphalt layer that crosses the north-south lane, passing through the central lane. She says the crack has a depth of approximately 25 cm.
Civil Protection says they are working in the area where the cracks have been reported and that state personnel are already studying the soil situation.
The cracked roadway, which has caused the lane reductions, is near the Playa Secreto and Iberostar Paraíso hotels along the Playa del Carmen – Puerto Morelos section of highway.
