Navy busts 4 Cozumel fishermen for catching illegal species

Cozumel, Q.R. — Elements of the Secretary of the Navy and the National Guard worked in coordination to intercept and arrest four fishermen who tried to flee in a boat after being discovered in illegal possession of snail and lobster.

The four Cozumel fishermen were taken into police custody after they caught and kept off-season species. Once they noticed navy personnel, they attempted to out-motor the vessel, however, they were caught and intercepted by a navy patrol and returned to the mainland.

Once there, elements of the navy verified their illegal catch, which consisted of 40 kilos of lobster and 4 kilos of snail. They were guarded by elements of the Secretaría de Marina until members of the National Guard arrived to take them into custody.
