Tulum, Q.R. — A 29-year-old Canadian woman remains in hospital after being attacked by a guest inside a Tulum hotel.
The unidentified woman, who was staying at the all-inclusive hotel in the municipality of Tulum, was beaten by a man she claims to have met earlier that evening. The incident happened during the early morning hours of Monday when the woman says she opened her door to someone knocking.
In her report, she says she left her room around midnight to get something to eat, which is when she met two couples whom she stayed with until around 3:00 a.m. Shortly after returning to her room, she heard a knock on her door. It was a man she had met earlier that evening.
She said he claimed his wife her a scream from her room and he had arrived to check on her. She told him she was fine, but he refused to leave. That is when the man began to beat her about the face and choke her until she blacked out.
When she woke, she found her face bloody and began screaming for help. Another hotel guest alerted security who called police. The woman was taken to a private medical facility in Playa del Carmen where she claimed the man also raped her while she was unconsciousness.
Police have arrested 34-year-old Ricardo S. P. of Mexico City for sexual assault. Ministerial Police report that Ricardo, who is a truck driver by trade, was staying at the hotel with his wife.
