Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Island officials continue their search for occupants after the report of an abandoned boat. The boat was found by area residents of central La Gloria of Isla Mujeres early Friday.
Authorities confirmed the location of the boat on the island’s east side. The boat is believed to have landed quietly in the rocky area during the night since there were no witnesses to its official arrival.
Early morning walkers discovered the small motorized boat with its abandoned cabin around dawn. Isla Mujeres police photographed the boat shortly after 6:00 a.m. and are looking into the boat’s registration number.
Isla Mujeres Municipal Police have not said if they are investigating a possible escape of undocumented migrants or if their investigation is leaning toward another reason for the boat’s sudden appearance.
