INM arrests two for illegal stay during Tulum-Playa del Carmen highway check stop

Tulum, Q.R. — A recent INM highway check stop outside Tulum resulted in the detainment of two foreign travelers. INM agents were part of the highway check stop to find people who are in the country illegally.

For more than two hours, personnel from the National Institute of Migration (INM) randomly stopped vehicles at the federal police filter as people left Tulum and entered Solidaridad.

Those stopped were asked to show their legal documentation to be in the country. During their two-hour inspection, two people were arrested and transferred to INM facilities in Cancun for not being able to prove their legal stay.

INM, the National Guard and Municipal Police were part of the traffic inspection that saw an Italian man and a French woman taken into custody. Both were arrested in separate inspections from public transport after failing to provide their legal documentation to be in Mexico.
