Gunfire exchange between Cancun police, man ends in arrests

Cancun, Q.R. — Gunfire exchange between Municipal Police and alleged thieves resulted in the arrest of two in SM 252 of Cancun.

The exchange of gunfire occurred on avenida Galaxias del Sol in Cancun Monday afternoon around 12:40 p.m. when police received a distress call of a robbery at a Súper Willis in SM 252. La Policía Municipal immediately deployed to the area, and upon arrival, were shot at by a man attempting to escape on foot.

On city surveillance cameras, he was seen exiting the Súper Willis and running down the street, turning back to fire shots at arriving police, which activated the city’s Red Code. The shooter managed to hit the police unit several times in the passenger side of the front windshield and mirror. Police returned fire, injuring him.

Cancun police were not injured in the bullet exchange that ended with the arrest of two. The two arrested have been identified as 20-year-old Gustavo Angeles E.R., who was taken to the General Hospital and his accomplice, 24-year-old King Emmanuel C.V., originally from Mexico City, who was the driver of a getaway motorcycle.

Upon their arrest, police seized a 9 mm pistol, ammunition and their motorcycle.
