Four state police, one citizen injured in Cancun ambush

Cancun, Q.R. — Shots fired at a private vehicle occupied by members of the state police created a Red Code alert in Cancun Tuesday night.

The red suburban was ambushed and shot at numerous times injuring a total of five people. The shooting happened at the intersection of Las Torres at La Luna and Cancun Avenues shortly after 9:00 p.m. when the suburban carrying four state police was intercepted by a white vehicle carrying armed individuals who got out and began firing.

All four occupants of the SUV were hit by bullets. A fifth person, a man on a motorcycle directly behind the suburban in traffic, was hit in the leg by the gunfire. The two men and two state police women inside the SUV were taken to hospital as was the man on the motorcycle.

Those inside the SUV are reported to be members of the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública de Quintana Roo. Injured in the gun fire were four state police including 32-year-old I.M.E., 36-year-old G.A.G., 31-year-old C.C.C. and 22-year-old A.Y.P.C. who is reported five months pregnant.

The driver of the SUV, 32-year-old I.M.E., is said to be in serious condition. The others, including the 26-year-old motorcycle driver, are all reported to be in stable condition.
