Dry law in effect across Quintana Roo due to popular consultation

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The sale of alcohol will be prohibited around the state during the upcoming popular consultation for the Revocation of the Mandate. On Sunday, Mexican nationals will take to the polls to vote whether or not President Andrés Manuel López Obrador continues in office.

The Ministry of Finance and Planning (Sefiplan) of Quintana Roo has announced that as of 11:59 p.m. April 9, alcohol sales will be off limits until 11:59 p.m. of April 10. It is on the morning of April 10 that the country will start to vote at the Instituto Nacional Electoral (INE) polls.

Sefiplan has noted that due to the holiday season, businesses located in tourist areas such as the Cancun Hotel Zone or Fifth Avenue Beach, are exempt from the 24-hour ley seca or dry law rule.
