City council clarifies no Quarantine Fest rave party for Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — “The government of Puerto Morelos has not authorized, nor will they authorize, any event that means the concentration of people during the current health emergency,” stated Miguel Ángel Zetina Cuevas, the Secretary General of City Council.

The statement was made to clarify misinformation about an alleged “Quarantine Fest” in the form of a rave party in Puerto Morelos on May 30.

“We have not granted permits to hold events, nor will we do so in the current contingency that we are going through since our priority is to save lives. What we have ordered are strict preventive measures to avoid a wave of contagions due to the new SARS-CoV-2. We are currently free of active cases of the disease, and that is thanks to the joint work between authorities and citizens,” said the official.

The person in charge of the municipal internal policy explained that a complaint was made for the alleged call on social networks and WhatsApp aimed mainly at young people to attend a ranch on the Ruta de los Cenotes, although when interviewing the owner of the ranch, he denied such an event.

“It should be noted that since the beginning of the administration of the municipal president Laura Fernández Piña, no permits have been granted to organize this type of party in which there is consumption of alcohol and drugs, much less do it at such difficult times that we gong through,” he highlighted.

He also indicated that despite the fact that no one approached city council to try to obtain permits, and that information is now circulating that the festival has been canceled, elements of the Municipal Secretariat of Public Security and Civil Protection personnel will be kept alert to avoid the organization of any type of event that means the concentration of people.

“Right now the most important thing is to stay at home since it is the only way to continue containing the presence of Covid-19 in our community and with it, to be able to enter the new normality shortly, to begin the economic recovery of our municipality,” he pointed out.
