CFE demands community payment of 71 million before restoring power

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — After a road block protest by residents of the irregular In-House community, CFE says it will restore power after a 71 million peso bill is paid.

On Saturday, a group of In-House residents took to blocking avenida Lilis after their homes were cut of electricity the day before. In response to the protest, the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) says they will reconnect the service after the 1,500 residents pay the company 71 million peso.

On Friday, the CFE cut power to the irregular neighborhood claiming illegal connections. On Saturday, a group of residents took to protesting the power cut with a road block. Since then, the federal power company has demanded a payment of 71 million to have their power restored even though some residents claim to have receipts for paid bills.
