Mérida, Yucatán — A barrel loaded with 16 kilograms of marijuana was seized Sunday by agents of the Federal Police at the Mérida International Airport.
The barrel was part of an arriving shipment from the state of Jalisco. A narcotics dog alerted police to the likeliness of drugs. When opened, the barrel, which was labeled as tequila, contained several packages of marijuana.
According to the statement from the Federal Police, it was at dawn that at the Aeropuerto Internacional Manuel Crescencio Rejón in Mérida when agents with trained canines secured the fake barrel of tequila.
The barrel, which contained 16 kilos of marijuana, arrived on a courier flight from Jalisco with a destination for Playa del Carmen.
