Bad backhoe maneuver causes complete collapse of retaining wall

Playa Olas Altas, Puerto Vallarta — A backhoe operator who was attempting a construction work is said to be the reason for a massive landslide. A large section of land behind a condo complex collapsed to the fight of those watching.

The retaining wall collapse happened in the Amapas area in front of Playa Olas Altas in Puerto Vallarta. According to reports, a water leak began that was apparently caused by the maneuvers of the backhoe operator. The water leak weakened the surrounding land, causing it to collapse.

Smaller pieces of stone, earth and mud began to fall which generated the full collapse of earthen walls, leaving another home and two buildings at risk. People from those buildings were evacuated.

After the collapse, the Civil Protection and Profeco personnel were called to the site. Upon arrival, they closed construction.
