American jailed on drug charges after dog picks him out of Playa del Carmen ferry passengers

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A 33-year-old American man has been jailed in Playa del Carmen on narcotics charges. On Tuesday, the Seguridad Pública Solidaridad (SSP) of Solidaridad reported the detainment of the man from the central Playa del Carmen ferry dock.

Police and their narcotics dogs monitoring passengers arriving from the island of Cozumel picked up on the man. According to the SSP, a drug dog alerted his handler to the man as he walked passed officers.

“When implementing narcotics prevention and detection tasks at the Fiscal Dock, police officers from the Solidaridad Public Security and Municipal Transit Secretariat seized a person of foreign origin in possession of 12 packages with the possible drug called tucibo and 10 with white powder resembling cocaine,” they said in their statement.

American, Lawrence “N”, 33, was arrested on the afternoon of April 24 by elements of the Tourist Police and the Canine Unit for possession of narcotics.
