13,000 houses will be needed to meet demands of upcoming Telsa Gigafactory

Santa Catarina, Nuevo León — More than 13,000 houses will be needed once the Tesla Gigafactory set for Nuevo León is operational. The Institute of the National Housing Fund for Workers (Infonavit) reported that it will create a local housing and urban development plan to meet this future demand.

The director of the State Housing Institute (IVNL), Eugenio Montiel, said that 13,000 homes will be required to supply the housing demand when the Tesla Gigafactory comes into operation.

“Stays must be ensured for employees which is consistent with the needs of the area,” he said.

Likewise, he considered that with the municipalities of Saltillo, Ramos Arizpe and Arteaga, in Coahuila, they could be options, but due to its proximity, Santa Catarina is ideal for hosting staff.

Carlos Martínez, the General Director of Infonavit, said that it is necessary to update the metropolitan instruments and generate an adequate plan to install new housing units.

He also said that they must create a mobility project that will adapt according to the size of the plant and its needs.

“Today, the road that leads to Pesquería is single lane, so we will need to start with the planning now,” he added.
