Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A man reported to be a national tourist died Friday while snorkeling in Puerto Morelos. The adult male was snorkeling with a group off the coast Friday morning when boat crew noticed him struggling in the water.

The snorkeler was loaded onto the boat and rushed to a lifeguard tower on Playa Sol. Lifeguards were notified prior to the man’s arrival to the beach. When the boat arrived, CPR was applied but the man did not respond.
Municipal Police were part of the emergency responders who met the boat at the beach around noon. The man was pronounced dead in the sand. Responding paramedics reported a possible heart attack. The man was with his family at the time of the accident.

Authorities are conducting an investigation into the official cause of death. The identity or age of the victim has not been made public.
