Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Three men found guilty for the 2023 murders of four municipal city workers have been sentenced. Authorities reported on Monday that they were sentenced to 48, 27 and 25 years respectively.
The four city inspectors were killed in February of 2023 during an inspection of a Playa del Carmen nightclub. The four men were beaten unconscious and then killed.
Their bodies were found abandoned in the bed of a former police truck that had been parked on a residential street.
State Prosecutor head Raciel López Salazar said Monday that Manuel Edmundo Muñoz Vázquez has been sentenced to 48 years, Néstor Enrique Aguilar to 27 and José Osvaldo Pech Jiménez to 25 years in prison.
The four inspectors were from the Playa del Carmen City Council and were in the process of inspection La Cueva when they intercepted by a group of armed men.
“The victims arrived at that time aboard a Silverado-type vehicle, owned by the municipality of Playa del Carmen, to carry out inspection work, however, upon arrival they were intercepted by the individuals who were carrying firearms,” explained López Salazar at a press conference.
According to the prosecutor, the assailants took the inspectors’ cell phones, locked them in a room, and beat them unconscious before murdering them.
Their bodies were found in the bed of their municipal pickup truck in the Ejidal neighborhood after being discovered by area residents.
