Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The Isla Mujeres Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) responded Wednesday to a report of a person experiencing a medical emergency. Authorities were called inside a commercial establishment on Rueda Medina Avenue in the island zone.

According to preliminary information, the individual was a foreign tourist who allegedly suffered a heart attack while inside the premises.
“Personnel from the Citizen Security department and emergency responders arrived at the scene to provide care and first aid. While there however, it was confirmed that the person no longer showed vital signs,” police said in a statement.
“The General Directorate of Citizen Security and Municipal Traffic collaborated with the relevant authorities to facilitate actions in accordance with established protocols,” Policia Isla Mujeres added.
Municipal officers secured the area and notified authorities. An official cause of death has not been released. Isla Mujeres police did not confirm the nationality of the deceased.
