Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A dozen people found by a passing cargo vessel adrift at sea have been rescued by the Mexican Navy. The group of 12 were located by the cargo ship off the island of Isla Mujeres September 29.
According to the Fifth Naval Region, personnel from the Mexican Navy rescued 12 people Tuesday evening who were aboard a vessel adrift northeast of Isla Mujeres.

The rescue occurred on September 29 after a tanker alerted authorities about the vessel, which was located 70 nautical miles from the island.
After receiving the alert, the Mexican Navy deployed a vessel from the Isla Mujeres Naval Search, Rescue, and Maritime Surveillance Station. Navy personnel met the ship and proceeded to transfer all 12 to the mainland.
From there, they were transferred to the Advanced Naval Station of Puerto Juárez where immigration officers from the National Institute of Migration met them to verify their immigration status.

One of the 12, a minor, was accompanied by his father to the state’s System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) in Cancun to carry out the corresponding procedures.
Authorities involved in their rescue did not provide information as to their nationality or their final destination.
