Tulum, Q.R. — A former treasurer of Tulum City Hall has been sentenced to more than three years in prison on weapons charges. Police say Vicente “A” was convicted of carrying a firearm without a license after being arrested in July with two guns, magazines and 33 live rounds.

His arrest took place inside the Cancun International Airport on July 2, 2026 during a baggage inspection. National Guard proceeded to arrest him inside Terminal 2 after an X-ray revealed what the FGR (State Attorney of the Republic) said were war objects.
Vicente “A” has been identified as a former municipal treasurer of Tulum who served in the government of current mayor Diego Castañón. According to the FGR, during an abbreviated procedure, Vicente “A” was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for carrying a firearm without a license.
In addition to the prison sentence, he must pay a fine of 11,731 pesos.
The arrest led to Vicente “A’s” departure from the Tulum Municipal Treasury.
“Today I want to inform you that I have made the decision to step down from my position as municipal treasurer due to the unfortunate events that occurred Thursday.
“I am a man of principle who fully trusts in the rule of law and its institutions, and I am certain that due process will be followed,” Vicente “A” said in a video message on July 4.
Vicente “A” was replaced by Raziel Ek Cruz.
