Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Police in Isla Mujeres were able to return $2,000 USD stolen from a tourist after locating the thief. The SSC (Secretary of Citizen Security) said Saturday that the money was recovered and a man arrested.

“The Isla Mujeres Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security, through the Tourist Police Directorate, successfully recovered and returned cash belonging to a foreign visitor,” they reported.
“While conducting patrols, Tourist Police officers received a report regarding a male subject who had allegedly committed theft against a tourist.
“Working in coordination with the C2 Control and Command Center, officers tracked the suspect using video surveillance cameras and successfully located him,” the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) said.
“Upon intervention, the man, identified as Joel “N”, was arrested and placed at the disposal of the appropriate authorities for further legal proceedings. After contacting the victim, the officers returned the 2,000 dollars in cash.”
Police did not provide details as to where or how the money was stolen.
