Isla Mujeres firemen save home in early morning island blaze

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Isla Mujeres firemen were able to save a home that caught fire early this morning. Firemen were called to the home around 4:00 a.m. after flames began to spread from the outside of the building.

The fire happened in a home across from the airport, Isla Mujeres City Hall said in a briefing and is believed to have started on exterior palapa grass.

According to local authorities, only one room inside the home sustained damage. The fire was out by 4:30 a.m. with firemen reporting no physical injuries.

“Early this Monday morning, personnel from the Isla Mujeres Municipal Civil Protection and Fire Department promptly responded to a report of a house fire located across from the airport,” Isla Mujeres City Hall confirmed in a statement.

“The report was received at 4:00 a.m., and thanks to the rapid intervention of the Rapid Response Unit, the fire was fully extinguished by 4:30 a.m.,” they confirmed.

“Fortunately, there were no injuries. The fire completely destroyed a room measuring approximately 4 by 4 meters, including the furniture and the room’s structure, while the rest of the property sustained no significant damage,” Ayuntamiento de Isla Mujeres posted on social media.

Palapa grass on the outside of the building is reported to have caught fire, destroying one room inside the apartment October 5, 2026.

City Hall said the cause of the fire will be determined through an official assessment later today.
