Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Seven passengers were reported injured after their bus collided with a semi on the federal highway. The two heavy-vehicle accident happened Friday night south of the city near the area of Mayakoba.

The bus was transporting local workers from a construction site when the driver met a semi on the highway attempting to merge. The impact from the hit sent the bus into a concrete wall belonging to Mayakoba.
According to initial reports, the accident happened on the federal highway when the semi-trailer attempted to merge onto the highway. The bus, which was traveling toward Cancun, collided with the front right side of the semi.
After the collision, the bus veered off the highway and into the concrete wall. A bollard stopped its momentum and prevented it from overturning.
Paramedics located seven wounded people from inside the bus, none of whom were seriously injured or required hospital transfer.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into how the accident happened and who was legally at fault.
