Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — An empty semi trailer bed hung up on a metal guardrail was called in to police Wednesday night. The accident was reported outside Puerto Aventuras around 9:30 p.m. when other motorists saw the long unit leave the highway.
Police arrived at the base of the Puerto Aventuras bridge where they found the unit partially flipped. Due to speed, a majority of the double long flatbed ended up on the guardrail with the cab coming to rest in the merge lane.
Police were left with the task of dealing with traffic until a tow truck arrived to right the semi and remove it from the highway where it blocked two lanes.
The driver of the semi is alleged to have fallen asleep at the wheel at the time of the accident.
