Chetumal, Q.R. — A Chetumal man who was caught in mangrove vines was rescued Thursday after being stuck for more than 16 hours. Fireman and personnel from Civil Protection were part of the rescue team who located the man who was stuck in the vines about 200 meters from shore.
According to early information, the man entered the mangrove Wednesday night to go fishing and became caught up in the system’s thick vines. He was unable to reach shore. His cries for help were eventually heard by neighborhood passersby Thursday who called authorities.
The unidentified man, who had spent approximately 16 hours entangled in the watery vine system, was taken to Chetumal hospital and treated for hypothermia and exhaustion.
