Suspect charged with kidnapping of friend found strangled and buried

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Eloy “N” has been charged for his alleged involvement in the aggravated kidnapping of a man found dead. The man, who has not been named, was found buried after being kidnapped by friends in 2024.

Police say his kidnappers, three friends, strangled him to death before burying him then using his phone to demand ransom from his family. The men demanded 3,000 pesos for his release then another 5,000.

In a statement, police said “the events for which Eloy “N” is being investigated occurred on or after November 5, 2024, when the male victim was allegedly deprived of his liberty by three subjects at a home on Girasoles Street in the Monte de los Olivos neighborhood of the Continental Zone of Isla Mujeres.

“There, the four men, who were friends, were gathered to consume alcoholic beverages and drugs. At some point they argued, leading Eloy “N” and the other two men to kill the victim by strangulation and then bury him in the backyard.

“On November 6 they called his sister using the deceased’s phone to demand 3,000 pesos for his release. On November 7, the victim’s girlfriend sent a text message to his phone to say she was worried about him.
