Aeroflot cancels first of its Moscow flights into Cancun

Cancun, Q.R. — Russia has canceled its first flight into Cancun. On Sunday, an Aeroflot flight from Moscow to Cancun was canceled. The flight was scheduled to leave Moscow at 10:30 a.m., arriving in Cancun at 16:35, however, recent events forced to cancellation of the flight.

It is the first canceled flight at the Cancun International Airport since the beginning of the Russian invasion into Ukraine.

In addition to Cancun, the airline also canceled flights to Paris, Vienna , London and Munich, which were also scheduled to leave Sunday from Moscow.

Although the airline reported through a statement that as a result of the situation it would suspend its flights to Europe as of Monday, it did not give a position on its operations in the Caribbean.

“As a result of the restrictions concerning airspace applied by the European authorities, Aeroflot suspends its flights to all European destinations from February 28, 2022 and until further notice,” it reads.

On Sunday, Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission, says the EU has imposed a blanket flight ban on Russian planes. “We are shutting down EU airspace for Russian-owned, Russian-registered or Russian-controlled aircraft,” she said adding that all planes, including private jets, will not be able to land in, take off from, or fly over any EU nation.

This is in addition to the announcement that Russian planes have been banned from UK airspace. Mexico has not said if they intend to join the Russian airline ban.
