Puerto Morelos mayor-elect says she will work to return peace to the seaside town

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — After her official accreditation, Puerto Morelos mayor-elect Blanca Merari Tziú Muñoz, says she will seek to work with other winning mayors of Quintana Roo such as Mara Lezama (Benito Juárez) and Lili Campos (Solidaridad).

She also thanked voters for their support on June 6, which managed to do justice for her husband Ignacio Sánchez Cordero who preceded her as a candidate. He was murdered outside a cafe in February. During her campaign, she too, had attempts on her life on two occasions.

She said that Puerto Morelos has gone through very unfortunate situations and that she, as mayor, will do everything in her power to return peace so people can live calmly in Puerto Morelos, for which, before the Single Command, she will hold a meeting with Governor Carlos Joaquín González.

She said as for the mayor of Benito Juárez (Cancun), Mara Lezama called her when her husband was murdered and offered help. “I know we are going to work hand-in-hand,” she said.

“The one I have not had the pleasure of meeting is the municipal president of Solidaridad (Playa del Carmen Lili Campos), but I know that we will be able to sit down to work and give each other advice, as women I know that we are going to do a good job,” she added.

Out of the 11 municipalities in Quintana Roo, the recent elections will see seven headed by women.
