Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A Cancun judge has ordered the continued detainment of a woman believed involved in the death of a Puerto Morelos city official. On Wednesday, a Cancun judge announced formal charges against a woman for homicide in the death of Ignacio Sánchez Cordero.
The woman, who has been linked to the killing, was ordered to remain in preventative detention for the three months investigators have to move their case forward. The women, K.V., has been charged as the alleged mastermind behind the February 24 shooting death of Sánchez Cordero.
Sánchez Cordero was shot and killed in broad daylight outside a Puerto Morelos restaurant. At the time of his death, he was the former secretary of Social Development of the Puerto Morelos City Council, but current runner for the upcoming mayor’s position.
Authorities have deemed his death unrelated to political events, but instead, related to an ongoing land dispute.
