Mexico City, Mexico — In a message to the country, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador says 2018 was of hope and that 2019 will be a good year for the people of Mexico.
In a New Year address to the country, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador says “I wish Mexicans a good year in 2019. The year that has ended, 2018, was the year of hope because we Mexicans decided on a transformation, for a real change.
“ I feel happy, satisfied by the mandate given to me by the people of Mexico and, as I have said on other occasions and I reiterate, I will not fail the people.”
He said that with work and optimism, the Mexican people can contribute to transform the country in a peaceful way and thus achieve its rebirth.
“We’re going forward. 2019 will be a very good year. We must receive it with optimism. As far as I am concerned, I will not stop working and will always apply myself thoroughly. I am at the service of my people and it gives me great satisfaction to serve with humility, to make my knowledge available to society.”
The president predicted that the change of regime will bring welfare and progress with justice to the nation.
“I am sure that with the natural resources, with the riches of Mexico, with the work of its people — because the people of Mexico are among the most hard-working people in the world — and with a good government which is what was needed, we are going to achieve the rebirth of the country. There will be progress with justice,” he said.
Before the close of his address, he said that changes and actions to banish corruption have already begun, referring to it as “the cancer that has destroyed our country.”
