Mexico City, Mexico — President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo demanded that the Israeli government immediately repatriate six Mexicans. The six are members of the Sumud Global Flotilla transporting humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people in Gaza.
After noting that the flotilla was intercepted October 1 by the Israeli government, the President pointed out that the Mexican Foreign Ministry has been issuing diplomatic notes for at least three days.
The first, to request a guarantee of the physical safety of the detained Mexicans; in the second, our government asked the reasons why they might be detained.
The third diplomatic note, after the flotilla was intercepted, demanded the physical safety of the detainees. Finally, the most recent demanded the immediate repatriation of the Mexican members of the flotilla.
On board are Mexican nationals Sol González Eguia, Arlín Gabriela Medrano Guzmán, Carlos Pérez Osorio, Diego Vázquez Galindo, Ernesto Ledesma Arronte and Laura Alejandra Vélez Ruiz Gaitán.
“We know that they are currently at the port of Ashdod. Consular support has not yet been able to enter. What the Israeli authorities say is that they are going to take them to a detention center.”
President Sheinbaum said that they have the full support of the Mexican government through the consulate, who have not been able to see them.
“In fact, they haven’t been able to see them. They’re being held at the port. They haven’t yet been taken to the detention center. Obviously, we don’t agree with what Israel has done. They have not committed any crime,” she said.

“They should be handed over to the Mexican authorities for repatriation. We demand that humanitarian aid arrive and that this harassment of Gaza be stopped.”

In an October 2 statement, Israel en México released an official statement saying that in coming days, they will be returned to their country of origin.
