Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — For the second time in a week, a Playa del Carmen police officer has been killed. On Thursday night, an agent of the municipal preventative police was shot and killed while a second was left injured. Both officers were inside the police unit at a gas station convenience store.
The shooting of the two police officers happened in a parking lot at the intersection of 125 and CTM Avenues. The shots against the officers activated the Red Code, sending other police to the area.
When responding police arrived, they found both officers with bullet wounds inside the unit. The driver of the police truck was pronounced on scene, while the second officer was rushed to hospital with undisclosed injuries. The second officer is said to be in stable condition.
The shooting occurred just five days after a State Police patrol unit was shot at in the Aviación neighborhood of Playa del Carmen. That shooting also resulted in the death of an officer.
