Passengers unharmed after Chetumal taxi intercepted and driver abducted in mid-trip

Chetumal, Q.R. — Two Chetumal taxi passengers were unharmed after their driver was abducted during a trip. The two women were in the taxi early Sunday when the cab was intercepted by a grey Jetta and their driver hauled away.

The women were able to detail to police how the cab was aggressively intercepted around 5:00 a.m. as it approached the intersection of Juárez Avenue and Héroes de Chapultepec.

At the intersection, two armed men got out of the Jetta and forcefully removed the taxi driver from his unit, threatening to shoot him. He was forced into their waiting vehicle and driven away.

The two passengers who were left inside the cab called police. The Chetumal taxi was located in the middle of the street from where the driver had been abducted. Authorities have not identified the missing taxi driver.
