Acapulco, Guerrero — More than 500 market stalls were burned beyond saving in a massive blaze in the seaport city of Acapulco. The fire happened around 1:00 a.m. Monday in the Central Market of Acapulco.
Acapulco Mayor Abelina López Rodríguez reported that authorities were working in coordination to attend to the emergency. At last count, more than 570 market stalls were affected by the large blocks-long fire.
The Acapulco Fire Department, with support from the Government of Guerrero, the Navy, Sedena and the National Guard, worked until 4:00 a.m. to control the massive blaze that happened along 2 de Agosto Street.
More than 11,000 square meters of market caught fire. Stalls in other areas of the Central Market located along Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, Feliciano Radilla and Constituyentes Streets were also affected.
There were no reports of people injured. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
