Mexico City, Mexico — Mexico has agreed with the US to another 30-day extension regarding non-essential land travel between the two countries.
The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the 30-day extension regarding restrictions on non-essential land traffic along its common border. The news came after reviewing the development of the spread of Covid-19 in Mexico and in the US.
Through social media, the Mexican Foreign Ministry indicated that the restrictions will continue in the same terms in which they have been developed since their implementation on March 21.
“Both countries will continue seeking to coordinate sanitary measures in the border region,” said the Mexican Ministry.
The acting secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security, Chad Wolf, said that this extension also applies to Canada, adding that both border countries agree that extending those restrictions is “prudent at this time.”
“Non-essential travel will not be allowed until this administration is convinced that doing so is safe,” Wolf said in a statement.
Earlier Tuesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada and the United States had agreed to extend the ban on non-essential ground travel between the two countries for another 30 days.
