Police start investigation into murder of two Isla Mujeres youths

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Isla Mujeres police are investigating the fatal shooting of two young men. The pair were found shot to death and left laying on a dirt road in the La Loma neighborhood of the mainland late Tuesday night.

Neighbors in the area alerted 9-1-1 after hearing several shots of gunfire. Municipal Police, in coordination with state officials, arrived in response to their report. The two youths were found laying faceup on a dirt road. Paramedics from a Cancun Mexican Red Cross ambulance confirmed both young men were dead.

The shooting was reported to authorities shortly before midnight. According to preliminary reports, the youths are aged 16 and 21 and were identified by their families.

They are believed to have been executed at the site where they were found. The teen was found shot three times in his upper body. The second victim was shot twice, once each in his neck and back.

Witnesses reported two subjects on a motorcycle likely responsible for intercepting and shooting the pair as they were walking. A black ball cap, possibly related to the shootings, was found on the main paved road near the scene. Investigative Police collected five spent shell casings from a .9-millimeter caliber handgun as well as an amorphous bullet.
