Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen were called to the scene of a roaring fire in SM 228 Thursday morning. A carpentry shop had caught fire and was fully engulfed by the time they arrived.

Neighbors next to the burning building called 9-1-1 due to the size of the fire and fear of it spreading to the surrounding homes. Cancun firefighters reported successfully putting out the fire and preventing it from reaching nearby homes.
They also reported no injures but did not yet have a cause for what started the fire. In a brief statement they said “during the early hours of the morning, a 911 call was received regarding a fire at a carpentry shop in Region 228.
“Immediately, members of the Cancún Fire Department responded to the scene and performed extinguishing maneuvers, preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent homes. The fire was completely contained and fortunately, no injuries were reported.

“We call on the public: remember that materials such as wood, solvents and paint increase the risk of fire. It is essential to have fire extinguishers, safe electrical installations and emergency plans in workshops and businesses.”
