Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Drug dealing is the current line of investigation in a parking lot shooting early Friday. According to authorities, one man died and another suffered gunshot wounds after being attacked by three individuals who arrived at shopping mall in a taxi.

Initial investigations indicate that the gunmen arrived at the scene when the victim left a casino located inside the mall and headed toward the parking lot. The victim was in the company of a second person when three armed men approached him and opened fire.
After the attack, two of the gunmen fled on motorcycles that were waiting for them while the third boarded the taxi they arrived in. According to police “the victim was taken to a nearby establishment for safekeeping” by his friend however, upon arriving, he died.
Police say that the deceased, who has not been identified, was a suspected member of a rival criminal group operating in Puerto Aventuras. The current motive for the murder may be related to drug dealing.
Authorities reported that during the parking lot shooting early Friday morning, an innocent bystander was hit by stray bullets. “The injured man was taken to a hospital where his condition is reported to be stable,” police said.

They said the Quintana Roo Federal Executive Office (FGE) has solid information that allows it to identify the attackers and their transporters, who are part of a violent criminal group dedicated to drug dealing in the Puerto Aventuras area.
